Frequently Asked Questions

Star Empires (SE) is a play-by-email game wherein each player controls an interstellar empire intent on controlling the galaxy.  If you like games like Diplomacy or Twilight Imperium, you will probably like Star Empires.  A brief overview of the game can be found here.

During a game turn (typically one week long) you will need to communicate with the other players in the game to formulate your empire's strategy, and then enter your orders on the game map.  This can be done in less than 30 minutes per week, although most players find they like to spend more time than that once they start exchanging messages with other players.  Making plans to backstab your allies does take a bit of time, after all. :)

The typical Star Empires session has between six and eight players, although the session's game master can allow as many players as he wants.

Game turns are typically one week long (although all players in a session can agree to play faster than that), and a typical game takes about 20 turns to complete.  So, given delays for vacations and holidays and such, a typical game takes around six months.

Nothing. It's free to play games at Star Empires. The only thing you have to give is a commitment to play earnestly.  Of course, donations are always welcome. :)

The Star Empires site is currently under construction, so no games are available at this time. Please register on the site, and you will be notified when a new game is starting.

Would you believe January 2009?  Maybe.  We're coding as fast as we can.

Absolutely.  You can read the Star Empires rules here, and you can go over here in the forum if you have any questions or comments.
